Astronaut Neil Armstrong died

Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, died Saturday, weeks after heart surgery and days after his 82nd birthday.

Tribute to Neil Armstrong -Flash back to his life !

Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 spacecraft that landed on the moon on July 20, 1969.
He spent nearly three hours walking on the moon with fellow astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.
Armstrong and his wife, Carol, married in 1999, made their home in the Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill.
His birthday was Aug. 5.
The Apollo 11 moon mission turned out to be Armstrong's last space flight. The following year he was appointed to a desk job, being named NASA's deputy associate administrator for aeronautics in the office of advanced research and technology.
He left NASA a year later to become a professor of engineering at the University of Cincinnati.
In all, 12 Americans walked on the moon from 1969 to 1972.

  • Armstrong grew up in Ohio with a strong interest in flight and earned his pilot's license while still a boy.

  • After flying combat missions during the Korean War, he became a test pilot and joined NASA's astronaut program in 1962.

  • Armstrong's pulse was measured at 150 beats per minute as he guided the lunar lander to the moon's surface, NASA said.
He will still rule our hearts. We will never forget him !
 May his soul R.I.P

VVS Laxman announces retirement from International Cricket

VVS Laxman, who won many  matches for India including an epic 281 against Australia in Kolkata,  announced his retirement from international cricket on 18 Aug. with immediate effect, bringing down the curtains on a glorious career spanning 16 years. The 37-year-old Laxman, said that he felt it was the right time to bid adieu to the game which he played with "great pride for the country".

"I would like to announce my retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. I think it's right time to move on", an emotional Laxman told  a press conference.
"It was a tough decision to take, I have always listened to my inner conscience. The inner voice is a divine voice, I have always done that right through my career. There was a lot of debate in the last four days. I felt this is the right time to move on", he said.

Laxman, who earned the sobriquet 'Very Very Special' for his style and flair, played 134 Tests, amassing 8,781 runs at an average of 45.97. He scored 17 hundreds and 56 half centuries in the longer format of the game.
Laxman, who was not a regular in India's ODI team, played 86 matches for an aggregate of 2338 at an average of 30.76. Unfortunately for him, he could never be a part of India's World Cup campaigns which remains one of his biggest regrets.
"I have always kept my country's success and need ahead of my personal aspirations. And while I would love contributing to the team's success, especially against England and Australia, I think this is the right to give opportunity to the youngsters in home conditions ahead of international assignments", he said.
Laxman made it clear that he will continue to play for Hyderabad till this year.
"It was a dream for me to play for India since childhood and I am extremely thankful to the Almighty for giving me the opportunity to serve my country."
"I always felt that through cricket I got an opportunity to serve my country. I was fortunate to play in an era when India played some of its best cricket, home as well as away."
"I would like to thank everyone who guided me and encouraged me through my career."
"I always tried to my best to give everything to the team while mantaining my dignity. There were times I am sure I did not perform well, I disappointed them but I can assure that it was not due to lack of effort," he said.
"I conclude in all humility by praying to the Almighty to take and bless Indian cricket to the highest level in the world in all forms of the game."
"It has been an emotional, fabulous and memorable journey which I will definitely cherish for rest of my life."

Words on 5th ODI-micromax cup

Cricketers speaks on 5th ODI !

This was a very good wicket to bat on. Gautam batted well, we had a very good platform. The last 10 overs we had to get a fair amount of runs, we knew it will get a bit easy to bat on in the second half. Most of the Sri Lankan fields are quite big, if it's not needed it is advisable to not go for the big shots. This outfield was quick and we could use the pace of the bowler......

India won the ODI series with 4-1

India win series !

India take the series 4-1 and go up to No.2 in the ICC ODI rankings. A good series for the visitors. There's a T20 game left but barring an indifferent performance in the second ODI, India have chased well and now, defended a score. Good performance from Jeevan Mendis and Lahiru Thirimanne; they gave India a scare and there was a point when Sri Lanka had edged ahead but India hit back. So, a comprehensive series win for India, we'll get you the presentation details in a bit.
Irfan Pathan is the Man of the Match for his all-round performance: "God's grace. Was bowling well throughout the series. Had too many bad deliveries today but got five wickets. The batting gave me a lot of confidence, it came at the right time, in Premadasa and here. The ball does swing with the humid conditions, and with the two new balls it does help swing the ball. It's a great feeling."

Cricketers Speaks !

Cricketer words on 4th ODI

"The part-timers bowled really well, the pace was important and they bowled to their field. What also matters is the variations you have, Manoj was the away going spinner for us, it was a good wicket, but they bowled well for us, we requested Manoj to bowl a lot in the net sessions, if we don't get a perfect allrounder, we are comfortable playing seven batsmen.......Checkout Virat's words on 4th Odi.Read Full story at Cricketer Speaks !

India won series today !

India was good enough today to win series by 3-1.

Virat Kohli was once again the architect of a successful Indian chase, one that clinched the ODI series for India, who took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. Kohli anchored India's response to 251, and was helped along by Suresh Raina, who struck his third half-century of the series, each of them in an Indian win. Both had their moments of fortune, just when Sri Lanka had fought their way back, but once set, they approached the target confidently, never allowing the require-rate to go above six and often being imperious in their shot-making. A game that promised to be close at one point eventually produced dominant winner  .
