Dhoni launches bike racing team

Indian cricket captain Ms Dhoni, whose passion for bikes is well-known, has floated his own racing team which is now competing in the FIM Supersport World Championship.

.

The team, named MSD R-N Racing Team India, entered the 17-race championship in the 10th race at Brno, Czech Republic and is expected to compete full season in 2013.

The team has two riders in Florian Marino of France and Dan Linfoot of Great Britain.

Marino is a four-time Superstock 600 race winner, and was a full time Honda WSS rider last year. Linfoot had won two Superstock 600 races in 2008. The squad has its base at Yeovil in the UK and technical director will be Andrew Stone.Team principal Amit Sandill said they aim to popularise and grow the game in Asia.

Dhoni is part of the management, while actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has been mentioned as a Director. Nandish Domlur  is the CEO and Mangaging Director of the team.

India beat New Zealand-Lead series by 1-0

India win and lead by 1-0

India win by an innings and 115 runs, Ashwin's 12 for 85 is the best performance by an Indian bowler against New Zealand in Tests. New Zealand lose their final seven wickets for 26 runs.

It was terrific bowling from India's spinners, regularly attacking the stumps, not allowing the batsmen any easy deliveries. It wasn't a minefield that New Zealand made it seem like, and they really should have got much more than 164 after the watchful resistance from McCullum and Williamson.

MS Dhoni: "First of all, congratulations to the U-19 world Cup team, Chand batted really well. Here, Pujara batted well, (when we bowled) it was a hard-working wicket, it was difficult to get them out. We were also battling the weather, we were never sure how many overs we would get. Brilliant catching, Viru-pa got some very good catches, Kohli as well. It is something we want to continue. It was important for Pujara as he was coming after an injury, he is someone used to playing big, long innings. He has a good temperament, he can play for long periods, and the stroke-makers can play around him."

Ross Taylor: "We couldn't sustain ourselves, the Indian bowling showed us a masterclass. we have come over here in 2010 and drew the first two games without a practice match, we can't use that as an excuse. McCullum and Williamson played very well, myself included and a few other batsmen need to put up more of a fight. The batting, we need to learn how to play Ashwin."

Indians are always the World Champions !

India win by 6 wickets and are the ICC U19 World Cup Champions, the Indian players rush onto the field and they are very much excited and so are the fans. Chand is draped with the Indian flag, who has played an excellent knock. The camera follows Smit Patel, who has played an equally important role. The Aussie team in a huddle, they played well but they dropped few chances in the end that could have made some difference to the outcome of the match, who knows, but it is all India at the moment. The players shake hands, an excellent final.

Smit Patel: The captain appreciated me, I was tentative intially, he gave me confidence and then I got going. Stick to the basics as the coach advised. About Chand, he is a fluent player, it was awesome batting with him, we were confident that if we batted together till the end we could do it.

 Bosisto: Everyone is pretty depleted, we appreciate all the support, we dropped crucial catches and we were caught on the wrong side, the Indians did a great work, it is not the first time he (Unmukt) has terrorized us. Thanks to all and the India team.

Unmukt Chand the Man-of-the-Match: I do not know what is happening right now, thankful to God, taken the team through, the Aussies played very well but we came on top. Townsville has been amazing for us. The journey has been good. I would like to thank the support staff, my team, we had a great time together, it is a very emotional moment, like to thank NCA, and to all the people in India, who have prayed for us and to all the Indian fans at the ground.

Astronaut Neil Armstrong died

Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, died Saturday, weeks after heart surgery and days after his 82nd birthday.

Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 spacecraft that landed on the moon on July 20, 1969.

He spent nearly three hours walking on the moon with fellow astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.

Armstrong and his wife, Carol, married in 1999, made their home in the Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill.

His birthday was Aug. 5.

The Apollo 11 moon mission turned out to be Armstrong's last space flight. The following year he was appointed to a desk job, being named NASA's deputy associate administrator for aeronautics in the office of advanced research and technology.

He left NASA a year later to become a professor of engineering at the University of Cincinnati.

In all, 12 Americans walked on the moon from 1969 to 1972.

• Armstrong grew up in Ohio with a strong interest in flight and earned his pilot's license while still a boy.

• After flying combat missions during the Korean War, he became a test pilot and joined NASA's astronaut program in 1962.

• Armstrong's pulse was measured at 150 beats per minute as he guided the lunar lander to the moon's surface, NASA said.

He will still rule our hearts.We will never forget him !

VVS Laxman announces retirement from International Cricket

VVS Laxman, who won many  matches for India including an epic 281 against Australia in Kolkata,  announced his retirement from international cricket on 18 Aug. with immediate effect, bringing down the curtains on a glorious career spanning 16 years. The 37-year-old Laxman, said that he felt it was the right time to bid adieu to the game which he played with "great pride for the country".

"I would like to announce my retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. I think it's right time to move on", an emotional Laxman told  a press conference.

"It was a tough decision to take, I have always listened to my inner conscience. The inner voice is a divine voice, I have always done that right through my career. There was a lot of debate in the last four days. I felt this is the right time to move on", he said.

Laxman, who earned the sobriquet 'Very Very Special' for his style and flair, played 134 Tests, amassing 8,781 runs at an average of 45.97. He scored 17 hundreds and 56 half centuries in the longer format of the game.

Laxman, who was not a regular in India's ODI team, played 86 matches for an aggregate of 2338 at an average of 30.76. Unfortunately for him, he could never be a part of India's World Cup campaigns which remains one of his biggest regrets.

"I have always kept my country's success and need ahead of my personal aspirations. And while I would love contributing to the team's success, especially against England and Australia, I think this is the right to give opportunity to the youngsters in home conditions ahead of international assignments", he said.

Laxman made it clear that he will continue to play for Hyderabad till this year.

 "It was a dream for me to play for India since childhood and I am extremely thankful to the Almighty for giving me the opportunity to serve my country."

 "I always felt that through cricket I got an opportunity to serve my country. I was fortunate to play in an era when India played some of its best cricket, home as well as away."

"I would like to thank everyone who guided me and encouraged me through my career."

"I always tried to my best to give everything to the team while mantaining my dignity. There were times I am sure I did not perform well, I disappointed them but I can assure that it was not due to lack of effort," he said.

"I conclude in all humility by praying to the Almighty to take and bless Indian cricket to the highest level in the world in all forms of the game."

"It has been an emotional, fabulous and memorable journey which I will definitely cherish for rest of my life."

Reason for ban :

The government's decision to ban bulk SMS and MMS services for 15 days, to check spread of rumours that has led to exodus of north-eastern people(violence in assam) from certain parts of the country..The department of telecommunications (DoT) has already sent out directives to telecom operators asking them to ban such services with immediate effect.This is not the first time the government has banned such services. During Independence Day, bulk SMS service was not allowed in Jammu and Kashmir. Also, after the Ayodha verdict, bulk the service was banned for a certain time period. The licence agreement of telecom operators have conditions under which in the interest of national security the government can ask operators to ban certain services.

“Lots of research has gone into it. I don't know whether the research will result in extra runs but we will definitely feel more comfortable,” team skipper MS Dhoni remarked humorously while speaking at the launch ceremony.

With Sushil's Silver Medal, India grabs 6th medal

Sushil Kumar has won the silver medal after losing the final to Japan's Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu. Sushil lost in the fight, 2-0.

 Sushil Kumar on Sunday gave India one more reason to rejoice after he successfully defeated Turkey's Ramazan Sahin by 2-1. Sushil lost the first round by 1-0 to Sahin, who is gold medal winner of last year's Olympics in Beijing.But the Indian wrestler from Haryana made a quick comeback to win the other two rounds.
Today , he loses final to Japan's Tatsuhiro ,still ensuring a Silver Medal for his country.

India's Yogeshwar Dutt defeated  DPR’s Jong Myong Ri in the third round of wrestling to claim bronze in the 60kg wrestling competition on the penultimate day of the 2012 London Olympics.Yogeshwar was at his best.Won three rounds in one hour only.Great champion indeed. It was a stunning turnaround in fortunes for the Indian wrestler on Saturday, who won his fifth bout of the day to give India its fifth medal of the Games.

This was a very good wicket to bat on. Gautam batted well, we had a very good platform. The last 10 overs we had to get a fair amount of runs, we knew it will get a bit easy to bat on in the second half. Most of the Sri Lankan fields are quite big, if it's not needed it is advisable to not go for the big shots. This outfield was quick and we could use the pace of the bowler......

India won the ODI series with 4-1

India win series !

India take the series 4-1 and go up to No.2 in the ICC ODI rankings. A good series for the visitors. There's a T20 game left but barring an indifferent performance in the second ODI, India have chased well and now, defended a score. Good performance from Jeevan Mendis and Lahiru Thirimanne; they gave India a scare and there was a point when Sri Lanka had edged ahead but India hit back. So, a comprehensive series win for India, we'll get you the presentation details in a bit.
